Offer description

Closing date for this vacancy is Tuesday 30 September 2025 at midday About the role We are looking for new, enthusiastic people to join Roundabout’s Board of Trustees – could this be you? A charity’s Trustees share responsibility for governing the charity, directing how it should be run and ensuring it carries out the purposes for which it is set up. Being a Trustee for Roundabout will mean making decisions that will positively impact on young people’s lives and futures. Whatever your experience or background you will have something to offer to the Board of Trustees. You will be accepted and welcomed as yourself and supported in your role as Trustee. You may already be an experienced Trustee or Board member or completely new to the role, either way you will add to the collective skills and knowledge of the Board and, with a passion for Roundabout, its employees and the young people it serves, will bring a new and different perspective to the Board. Being a Trustee is a voluntary role; meetings are usually held monthly in the city centre with ad hoc visits and attendance at fundraising events variable depending on individual’s availability. A trustee's appointment will be reviewed every three years with a maximum recommended limit of nine years. The Board is committed to actively valuing diversity and inclusion and we welcome applications from all communities, and those with lived experience of homelessness. Key Accountabilities The role of Trustee requires you to: Ensure that Roundabout complies with its constitution, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations. Ensure that Roundabout applies its resources exclusively in support of achieving its objectives as defined in its constitution. Maintain confidentiality in relation to employees, services users, Trustees and organisationally sensitive information. Prepare for and attend Board meetings regularly. Actively contribute, while recognising and respecting the views, experience and knowledge of all Trustees, to collectively provide firm strategic direction. Agree amendments to policy, define strategic goals and objectives and support the evaluation of performance against agreed targets, challenging constructively when necessary. Safeguard the good name and values of the organisation. Ensure the effective and efficient management of Roundabout’s finances and administration (ensuring that records and accounts are properly kept and that an annual external audit is carried out), ensuring the financial stability of the organisation. Protect and manage Roundabout’s property and ensure the proper investment of funds. As part of the Trustee group, appoint the Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer as required and monitor their performance. Utilise individual skills, knowledge and experience to support the Senior Management Team when required and to monitor sound decision making. Interested? Email geoff.ticehurst@roundaboutltd.org with your name and phone number if you would like an informal chat with a trustee about the role. Submit a CV and statement of interest to geoff.ticehurst@roundaboutltd.org by midday on 30th September 2025 Successful candidates will be invited in for a formal interview as well as be expected to visit the Roundabout hostel for an informal chat with current Roundabout staff and some young people.
