Due to expansion, we have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant / LSAwith experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
The role of Learning Support Assistant / LSA is a varied one and you will need to be adaptable and flexible – there will be opportunities to work within the whole class, teaching small groups and on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils.
As a Learning Support Assistant / LSA you will help to get students involved in the school's social and academic activities, and help them become more independent learners, aiming to boost their achievements.
DUTIES
Your duties as a Learning Support Assistant / LSAwill include:
1. Implement lesson plans, deal with pupil behaviour and make judgements about pupil progress/pupil needs normally in conjunction with the teacher
2. Work with individual or groups of children, assist in ensuring pupils are kept on task and complete activities set by the teachers
3. Deal with behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the teacher
4. Assist with testing and assessment
5. Review progress against learning programmes
6. Be flexible to meet the needs of the school either working 1:1 with an SEN child or providing class support
7. Maintain confidentiality and hold the trust and confidence of both pupils and teachers
8. Work with ‘children come first’ attitude, adhering to safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures to maintain the safety and wellbeing of all children
9. Provide lunchtime supervision, either in the dining hall or on the playground, organising play activities in the playground or indoors if a wet playtime
10. Administer first aid in the case of a minor accident acting on the advice of the registered first-aider
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
11. Have a child-centred approach
12. Be able to create a structure for children with SEND needs
13. Have the ability to work in an Early Years, KS1 or KS2 setting
14. Have the ability to work under pressure and to a fixed timetable
15. Have experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting
16. Have the ability to keep pupils motivated and engaged
17. Have a calm but firm approach
18. Be able to adapt and think on your feet
19. Be flexible and willing to learn
20. Be able to attune to a child’s emotional needs
21. Be able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
22. Be able to work independently and on your own initiative
23. Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
24. Demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
25. Understand confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
