Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Specialist (Band 8a) within Critical Care to join the Therapies Directorate at the University Hospital of North Midlands. The post holder will be required to facilitate clinical development and extend the scope of current practice with the aim of delivering the highest quality and most up to date evidence-based care.

The clinical specialist role will be responsible for the generation of new research opportunities and implementation of the most up to date evidence based practice. The role will have a responsibility to enhance the on-going training and education framework of a large therapy team to ensure an optimum learning environment for both static and rotational staff and students. The role will have a responsibility to represent the organisation at a national networking level, in order to influence service development and marketing our service to key stake holders.


Main duties of the job

Our Critical Care Unit is a regional trauma centre and has 36 beds including trauma, surgical, medical, neurosurgical and Spinal Cord Injury and lends itself naturally to innovative ways of working. It is supported by an experienced therapy team which consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy technicians. The Critical Care therapy team work as part of a wider, dedicated multidisciplinary team. This will give the post holder an excellent opportunity to help build further clinical expertise that will enhance and broaden respiratory and rehabilitation skills within a highly motivated team.

Supervision is provided by Principal Therapists and peer supervision. Continuous development is supported through appraisal, internal training and external learning.

There may be a requirement of some out of hours working.
