Overview
The Anaesthetic Department services a variety of surgical specialities including the regional Upper GI service and provides support to the Critical Care Unit and Obstetric Unit. There is a well-developed Preoperative assessment unit, including CPET, prehabilitation and a Pain Management service. The successful candidate will provide anaesthesia for a variety of lists as outlined in the job plan, negotiable depending on interests, experience and departmental needs.
The Critical Care Unit is a 12-bedded combined general ITU and HDU with mixed medical and surgical admissions. Recent investment has facilitated future expansion and designated teaching and simulation areas, complementing an active teaching programme within the Department and across North Wales.
The on‑call commitment is to the General Consultant Anaesthetist on call rota.
Responsibilities
This is a full-time post consisting of 10 PAs, typically 7 for Direct Clinical Care plus 3 SPAs. The post includes anaesthesia for theatre with a sub-speciality interest in orthopaedic and trauma anaesthesia. You would contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Department, assist in supervision and teaching of Resident Doctors, and contribute to local clinical governance activities including quality improvement projects, clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives. You will participate in an Annual Appraisal and work towards Revalidation as guided by the GMC. SPA time is allocated for this and the Health Board uses a computer-based system for the Appraisal process. You will be required to cooperate with local management in the efficient running of services.
Your Line manager will be the Lead Clinician of the Anaesthetics Department.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
* GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the date of interview
* FRCA or equivalent Diploma
* Experience in anaesthesia
* Experience of working in the NHS
Desirable
* Additional degree or post-graduate qualification (MRCP, MD etc)
* Post-Graduate Prizes
Clinical Skills and Training
* Higher training in general, urological and gynaecological surgery
* Higher training in Orthopaedic Anaesthesia including Regional Anaesthesia
* Higher training in obstetric anaesthesia
* Higher training in sedation & non-theatre
* Higher training in paediatric anaesthesia with at least 6 months experience
* APLS, ALS and ATLS provider (or equivalent)
Teaching Experience
* Evidence of GMC standards to be recognised as a clinical supervisor
* Active regular participation in teaching and training of medical and para-medical colleagues
Clinical Governance
* Active engagement with clinical audit and continuing medical education
* Evidence of reflective practice and understanding of NHS management structures
