Head of AP Kirkham, North Yorkshire | Up to £60,000 This is a senior Accounts Payable role with genuine substance. AP here isn’t transactional or siloed. It plays a visible role in cash management, supplier relationships and operational discipline across the group. If you enjoy taking ownership, leading people, and shaping how an AP function operates at scale, this role offers both challenge and influence. The Opportunity You’ll be joining a long-established, multi-site organisation with a strong heritage and ambitious plans for profitable growth. Operating across manufacturing, distribution, retail and services, the business supports a diverse customer base and continues to invest in people, systems and infrastructure to support growth. Following recent senior finance appointments, the focus is now on strengthening core finance operations and building a best-in-class function that can support future expansion. Why this role stands out This is a senior leadership role within Accounts Payable, with real ownership and scope. You’ll be trusted to: Take end-to-end responsibility for the AP function Strengthen controls, consistency and ways of working Improve visibility around cash and liabilities Develop a capable, motivated team Play an active role in the wider finance transformation This is about improving how AP operates - not simply maintaining the status quo. What you’ll get involved in Your remit will include: Taking ownership of the end-to-end Accounts Payable operation, ensuring invoices, expenses and supplier payments are processed accurately and on time Overseeing supplier account reconciliations and resolving queries or discrepancies efficiently, working closely with internal teams where required Planning and managing payment cycles in line with cash flow priorities and agreed controls Reviewing existing AP processes and introducing improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency and control Developing, documenting and embedding clear AP policies and procedures across the business Producing meaningful reporting, including creditor analysis, accruals and cash flow-related insight Acting as a point of escalation for complex AP issues and supplier relationships Leading, coaching and developing the AP team, ensuring workloads are balanced and standards are maintained Who this is for You’ll likely be someone who: Has strong experience managing an AP or purchase ledger function Enjoys improving processes and tightening controls Is confident leading people and managing competing priorities Understands the importance of AP to cash, controls and supplier relationships Takes ownership and pride in delivering high standards Formal qualifications are welcome, but experience and mindset are key.
