Management Accountant Hybrid Working – Predominantly Home Based | Oxford Circa £43,000 flexibility on rate 6-Month Fixed Term Contract (Potential to Extend) Full Time | 37 Hours Per Week An opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join a well-established Financial Services function within one of the UK’s most progressive and community-focused local authorities. Working within the Management Accounting Team, you’ll support budget monitoring and financial control processes across a range of corporate service areas. The wider Management Accounting function consists of 12 staff, including Finance Business Partners, Senior Management Accountants and Management Accountants, with this role sitting in a team of four and reporting into a Senior Management Accountant. This is initially a 6-month FTC covering absence within the team, however there is genuine potential for extension due to additional resource requirements. The Role You’ll provide proactive financial management support across less complex service areas, helping budget holders understand financial performance, forecasts and expenditure while ensuring robust financial governance and control. Key responsibilities will include: Monthly budget monitoring and reporting Producing commentary and analysis on financial performance Supporting budget holders with forecasting and future expenditure planning Attending budget holder meetings and resolving financial queries Journals, reconciliations, accruals and budget adjustments Supporting users with procurement and expenditure processes within Agresso Providing guidance on financial systems and processes Supporting wider management accounting and corporate reporting activities Contributing towards continuous improvement across finance processes The role offers predominantly home working, with office space available daily at the Town Hall if preferred. Attendance onsite will mainly be for team meetings, away days and occasional stakeholder meetings. About You We’re looking for a confident and collaborative finance professional who enjoys partnering with stakeholders and working in a fast-paced environment. You’ll ideally have: Experience within Local Government, NHS, Higher Education, Charity or wider public sector environments Previous management accounting and budget monitoring experience Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders Experience producing financial analysis, commentary and reporting Good systems knowledge, ideally including Agresso A proactive and organised approach with strong attention to detail Part-qualified or AAT qualified status (or equivalent) preferred Candidates from purely commercial backgrounds may find the transition more challenging, so prior exposure to public sector style finance environments would be highly advantageous.
