The Impact and Shock Mechanics Laboratory (ISML) is seeking a highly motivated scientist to support a high-value materials characterisation programme as a postdoctoral researcher. The ability to think creatively and drive innovative ideas in a highly experimental laboratory is highly valued. This is a 1-year fixed-term position, with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities
1. Study the mechanical behaviour of materials relevant to the aerospace industry using a variety of mechanical loading and conditioning platforms.
2. Utilise techniques such as high-speed imaging, digital image correlation, and laser velocimetry to analyze the effects of strain, strain-rate, and temperature on material response.
3. Collaborate with team members to translate experimental results into numerical models to enhance predictive capabilities.
4. Contribute to a vibrant research environment and provide guidance to less experienced team members, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and students.
Qualifications
* Hold a Masters or PhD degree (or be close to completion) in a relevant subject area.
* Demonstrate exceptional initiative and the ability to work independently at a high level.
* Experience in project management and research within a related field.
