We are seeking a keen, reliable individual who is interested in joining the DCH Waste Team. Working within the Estates & Facilities Department, you will be part of the team which plays a vital role in ensuring the Trust's Waste is appropriately segregated, stored and consigned. This is a hands on role which require efficiency, good communication skills and the ability to work to high standards required within the trust.
Shift pattern is Mon-Fri
6-12 week 1
4-10 week 2
Please be aware that this role is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants should be aware of the requirement to independently obtain ongoing right to work in the UK beyond the expiry of any temporary or time-limited permissions. Evidence of this will need to be shared with the HR Team to ensure our records remain up to date.
This post is part of the Estates service that Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust may transfer to a NHS wholly owned subsidiary company from October or November 2025. Main duties of the job
* To keep the Waste Compound and Service Yard at Dorset County Hospital clean and tidy.
* To be responsible for advising the Waste Coordinator when containers/skips require collections or exchanges.
* To be responsible for monitoring the condition of the 770l clinical waste bins after an exchange and reporting any faults or issues to the Waste Coordinator.
* Ensure all clinical waste 770l bins are consigned and tagged appropriately using the bio track tagging system.
* Receive waste into compound from authorised persons and segregate correctly for disposal. Some of this will be hazardous waste and should be bagged correctly.
The successful candidate may be required to work without supervision at times, therefore, they must ensure effective and efficient is always provided within agreed standards and legislation, to promote a positive and professional image.
This role which requires excellent, communication, and organisational skills as well as the ability to prioritise your workload. In addition, a positive and proactive attitude is essential.

Essential criteria
* Maths and English GCSE grades 9-4, A* - C or equivalent.
* Full UK driving licence
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* General Knowledge of waste and recycling segregation
Desirable criteria
* Previous experience in a waste management capacity
* Experience of working in a hospital environment in recent years
Skills
Essential criteria
* Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
* Evidence of ability to work within specified standards and timescales
* Evidence of ability to remain calm under pressure
* Friendly, reliable, responsive with ability to meet client user, and staff expectations.
Desirable criteria
