Air Products is seeking a Mobile HGV Technician based in Bargeddie. The role involves routine maintenance, repairs and diagnostics for various types of vehicles and trailers, with a focus on cryogenic vehicle maintenance to prepare candidates for an advanced Automotive/Cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician role.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform routine maintenance tasks and repairs on a range of specialist equipment, including vehicles weighing 3,500 kg to 44,000 kg GVW and associated trailers.
* Adhere to the highest standards of maintenance, following UK Government DVSA requirements and Health and Safety Executive regulations.
* Accurately complete documentation using both paper records and electronic information systems as required by Air Products’ fleet maintenance policies.
* Inspect, diagnose, and repair complex electrical and pneumatic systems; interpret technical data, schematic diagrams, and remedial action plans.
* Apply investigative and analytical techniques to rectify equipment defects and ensure operational safety.
* Use technical diagnostic systems for fault finding and equipment programming.
* Follow company Operating Procedures, Method Statements and Risk Assessments; perform Dynamic Risk Assessments to safeguard yourself and colleagues.
* Perform loading, unloading and purging of cryogenic liquid products, and ensure safety protocols for handling cryogenic materials such as liquid nitrogen, oxygen and argon.
* Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities and repairs, ensuring compliance with notifiable body requirements.
* Work primarily outdoors; be prepared for travel within the UK and Ireland and potential work away from the normal workplace.
Qualifications & Key Competencies
* Time served apprenticeship, associate degree or certification in mechanical engineering, automotive technology or a related field.
* Experience in vehicle maintenance or a similar technical role.
* Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
* Attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.
* Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
* Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
* Capacity to work under pressure and adapt to dynamic environments.
* Willingness to learn and develop new skills on the job.
* Knowledge of cryogenic liquid and gaseous product handling and metering equipment is highly desirable.
The role is primarily based in Bargeddie but may require travel across the UK and Ireland. Successful candidates will work closely with the distribution team and the Fleet Maintenance Workshop in Carrington (Manchester).
