Offer description

Overview

Graduate Environmental Physics and Wind Engineer (5739). Join to apply for the Graduate Environmental Physics and Wind Engineer (5739) role at Arup.

Our Technical Specialist Services Portfolio is growing rapidly, and we are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of environmental physics and wind engineering specialists. Our Environmental Physics and Wind (EP&W) team comprises specialists in fluid dynamics, climate analysis, wind engineering, electromagnetic compatibility and thermal comfort. The team combines the principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer to design liveable, resilient cities, sustainable buildings, and to solve a wide range of complex problems across all facets of the built environment. From your first day, you will join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification. You will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

The Opportunity: a large proportion of our work focuses on the control of indoor and outdoor thermal environments, design of urban spaces to improve liveability, and assessment of wind impacts on structures and critical equipment. We also use our core skills to support Arup in a diverse range of areas, such as the design of hydraulic structures, electromagnetic systems and offshore wind farms. We routinely deliver cross-disciplinary projects with other engineers and specialists in Arup; a broad understanding of how our work interacts and affects wider design and engineering considerations is key to our success.

Your role will be to undertake analysis and design on behalf of clients or in collaboration with other teams within Arup. You will use analytical and numerical methods such as CFD and dynamic thermal modelling as well as wind tunnel modelling and other forms of testing to inform the design process. You will regularly interact with architects, developers and engineers on projects in diverse sectors including buildings, energy, industry and transport.

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

* Masters or bachelor's level degree, ideally in engineering science, mechanical, civil, or aeronautical engineering (2:1/60% or higher or equivalent) but other degree courses with an emphasis on mathematics and modelling will also be considered.
* A strong interest in fluid dynamics and how it impacts the built environment.
* A strong interest in numerical, statistical and/or physical modelling.
* Experience with coding languages, such as Python or MATLAB is an advantage.

The role is available in one of Arup's Manchester, London or Birmingham offices. The EP&W team shares resources across these locations meaning that the same project opportunities are available in each location.

We\'re Looking For

* Changemakers: A passion for sustainable development and creating a better world is key.
* Innovative minds: We\'re looking for critical thinkers who embrace new ideas and challenge the status quo.
* Growth seekers: You have a growth mindset, always eager to learn and explore new ways of working.
* Adaptable adventurers: You\'re ready to take on any challenge that comes your way.
* You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2026.

Advert closing date: 15th November 2025. Please note, in the event of high applicant volume, this role may be closed ahead of the advertised closing date. Early application is recommended.

Location Preferences
While the role you applied for is based in the location specified in the job advert, we may have other opportunities that align with your profile. To help us assess this, please let us know which Arup office locations you would be interested in working in on your application form.
