Job Summary
This part‑time (job share) position is part of the Band 7 OT neurology rotation. Responsibilities include stroke care, inpatient level 1 and 2 rehabilitation across St George’s and Queen Mary’s Hospitals, acute neurology, neurosurgery, NICU and neuro outreach. Initially based in the Level 1 and 2 neurorehabilitation service at Queen Mary’s Hospital.
Main Duties
* The postholder leads and supports occupational therapists in assessment, rehabilitation, functional retraining, and discharge planning of patients, often with highly complex neurological needs.
* Provides specialist advice and clinical treatment support, assisting junior team members with caseload management, clinical reasoning, timely referrals, and discharge planning.
* Delivers activity in a service with clear specifications around intensity and specialism of rehabilitation as set out by NHS England, aiming to optimise patient outcomes and reduce length of stay and long‑term care costs.
* Reduces caseload complexity and improves service efficiency through effective management and comparison of outcomes using UKROC.
* Supports service delivery of 7‑day care, contributing to staffing ratios, assessment timeliness, and intensity of rehabilitation.
Essential Qualifications and Training
* Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registration
* Evidence of continued professional development, reflective practice, and recent postgraduate courses relevant to neurology
* Fieldwork Educators Course
Desirable Qualifications
* Post‑graduate course in management
* Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Essential Experience
* Minimum of 5 years post‑graduate experience, at least 3 years in a physical setting
* Minimum of 3 years qualified experience in neuro (including stroke and/or TBI)
* At least 1 year previous NHS experience as a qualified OT (substantive or locum) or as an undergraduate OT student
* Knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of neurological patients through advanced clinical reasoning
* Staff / student supervision experience
