Here you can make an impact on the world around you and accelerate your career in areas that energize and excite you.</p><h3>EHS Specialist</h3><p>Fixed Term Contract until end Feb 2027</p><p>Middlesbrough</p><h3>Overview</h3><p>We have an exciting opportunity for an EHS Specialist to help drive EHSQ standards by providing competent support and advice on health, safety and environmental matters to the Univar Solutions business.</p><h3>Key Responsibilities and Tasks</h3><h3>Health & Safety Management</h3><ul><li>Support the site’s Health & Safety strategy in line with UK legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act 1974).</li><li>Implement, and monitor safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.</li><li>Ensure legislation compliance.</li><li>Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.</li><li>Maintain accurate records and statutory reporting, including RIDDOR submissions where required.</li></ul><h3>Environmental Management</h3><ul><li>Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits (e.g., waste management, emissions, ISO 14001 where applicable).</li><li>Support environmental improvement initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainability programmes.</li><li>Conduct environmental audits and fulfil reporting requirements.</li></ul><h3>Compliance & Audits</h3><ul><li>Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments across site operations.</li><li>Prepare for and support internal and external audits.</li><li>Ensure policies and procedures are up‑to‑date and aligned with legal requirements and best practice.</li></ul><h3>Training & Engagement</h3><ul><li>Deliver EHS training and awareness programmes for employees and managers.</li><li>Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives.</li><li>Support leadership teams in understanding their safety responsibilities.</li></ul><h3>Emergency Preparedness</h3><ul><li>Maintain emergency response plans (fire, chemical spills, etc.).</li><li>Support with emergency drills and ensure readiness across the organisation.</li></ul><h3>Stakeholder Management</h3><ul><li>Act as the main point of contact for HSE, Environment Agency, and other regulatory bodies.</li><li>Liaise with internal departments, contractors, and external partners to ensure compliance and best practice.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Proactive person who will form an integral part of the site team and drive safety standards higher.</li><li>NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent, and IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.</li><li>Ideally, experience working in the chemical manufacturing or chemical distribution industry in an EHS role.</li><li>Good working knowledge of EHS Management Systems.</li></ul><h3>Benefits</h3><p>We offer a <b>Total Rewards package</b> that includes market‑aligned pay and incentives as well as a diverse benefits offering to support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing.</p><h3>Equal Opportunity Statement</h3><p>Univar Solutions is an equal opportunity employer.
