Job Description

Job Title: SEN Specialist Resource Base TeacherLocation: Rugby, WarwickshireSalary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and committed SEN Specialist Teacher to join our Resource Base in Rugby. This provision supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The successful candidate will deliver highly personalised learning, ensuring pupils can access the curriculum while developing key life skills, independence, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver differentiated, structured lessons tailored to individual pupil needs
* Implement and review Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets
* Use evidence-based strategies to support communication, sensory regulation, and behaviour
* Work collaboratively with the SENCo, teaching assistants, therapists, and external agencies
* Assess, track, and report on pupil progress using appropriate SEN frameworks
* Foster an inclusive, nurturing, and predictable learning environment
* Support pupils’ integration into mainstream classes where appropriate

Daily Responsibilities

* Adapt lesson plans and resources to meet a wide range of learning profiles
* Lead small-group and 1:1 teaching sessions within the resource base
* Direct and deploy teaching assistants effectively throughout the day
* Use visual supports, structured routines, and communication aids (e.g. PECS, visual timetables)
* Manage behaviour positively using de-escalation strategies and personalised support plans
* Monitor pupil wellbeing and respond to emotional or sensory needs as they arise
* Maintain accurate records, including daily observations and progress notes
* Liaise with parents/carers through regular communication (home–school diaries, meetings)

Essential SEN-Specific Experience

* Proven experience teaching pupils with SEN, particularly ASC, SLCN, and/or SEMH
* Strong understanding of EHCP processes, target setting, and annual reviews
* Experience using structured teaching approaches (e.g. TEACCH principles)
* Knowledge of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC systems
* Skilled in behaviour support, including positive behaviour support (PBS) and de-escalation techniques
* Experience working alongside external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists, educational psychologists)
* Ability to assess and adapt provision based on individual sensory and learning needs
