INIS Environmental part of RSK Group Ltd are hiring for an Assistant Ecologist - Quality & Fieldwork (Birds/Bats) to join the team in Ennis with a mixture of Field based working, office and home working. The Assistant Ecologist – Quality & Fieldwork completes quality assurance of ecological surveys, particularly in ornithology and bat monitoring. The role involves assisting with fieldwork, managing data records, ensuring survey standards are met, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality ecological outputs. This position is ideal for a developing ecologist looking to gain experience in both field ecology and internal quality processes within a consultancy environment. Key Responsibilities:Field Survey Support (Birds or Bats Focus) Assist with the delivery of bird surveys (e.g. breeding bird surveys, wintering bird counts, vantage point surveys). Support bat surveys, including dusk/dawn emergence, static detector deployment, and roost assessments. Ensure proper handling, transport, and setup of field equipment (e.g. bat detectors, binoculars, GPS, record sheets). Adhere to best practice survey methodologies and relevant guidance (CIEEM) Data Collection and Quality Monitoring Accurately record field data and transfer it into digital systems ( Excel ). Assist with data validation, formatting, and QA reviews in line with company standards. Support collation of metadata, photos, and field notes for internal and external reporting. Flag data gaps, inconsistencies, or technical issues to relevant leads. Assist with reviewing survey logs and ensuring consistency across field teams. Health and Safety / Field Protocol Follow all relevant RAMS, SHE plans, and site-specific health and safety procedures during fieldwork. Ensure safe and ethical survey conduct in all conditions and report any incidents or near misses. Help maintain and check field equipment and PPE prior to deployment. Person Specification: Degree or relevant qualification in ecology, zoology, environmental science, or related field. Field experience with bird or bat surveys (including volunteering, placements, or student projects). Strong attention to detail in data recording and processing. Full clean driving licence.
