We currently have a vacancy for a Policy Coordinator to join our Place and Environment Policy Team. Following publication of the Phase Two Grenfell Tower Inquiry report in September 2024, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, under the leadership of the Mayor of West Yorkshire, has started to identify how the pace of remediation of buildings in our region can be increased. The combined authority is playing a convening role, bringing together the key stakeholders in West Yorkshire with responsibilities relating to the safety of buildings with dangerous cladding. This new Policy Coordinator role is to support the development and implementation of a partnership Local Remediation Acceleration Plan for West Yorkshire. We are also interested to hear from candidates that may have an interest in the wider activity of the team. The focus of the wider team is policy and programme development to support sustainable growth and resilience across the region. Our activity aims to accelerate delivery and improve the quality of infrastructure and place making activities including planning, transport, housing, employment sites, net zero and energy, climate resilience and environment, and urban design. Our activity supports a cross-boundary and cross-policy approach to infrastructure planning and delivery including the development of a regional planning policy approach (Spatial Development Strategy) anticipated in 2026, seeking opportunities for cost and efficiency savings. The Role Reporting into the Policy Manager, your key responsibilities will include: · Coordination of policies and initiatives through the development of policy proposals, appraising strategy options and co-ordinating projects and initiatives. · Provision of project management and technical support to the directorate. · Working with a range of partners – e.g. local authorities, key stakeholders, government agencies and private sector organisations. · Providing general support to the relevant policy managers on activity related to the team. · Ownership of specific areas of work commensurate with the role grade. · Supporting the Remediation team – for instance, to design new policies, strategies, programmes and projects, that drive the work relating to building safety and cladding remediation across West Yorkshire including the interventions outlined in the developing West Yorkshire Remediation Acceleration Plan and based on the National Remediation plan. About You You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience: · Experience of successfully working within a policy and strategy environment. · Experience of successfully identifying appropriate communication channels to deliver information. · Excellent analytical and data analysis skills. · Experience of developing effective working relationships both internally and externally. · Experience of writing concise reports, briefing notes and presentations for a variety of audiences.
