Salary Range starts at: £35,620 ( negotiable depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

Ready to play your part?

At AWE, it’s not just a job, it’s far more than that. Our shared purpose is to help keep the nation safe. Could this role be the opportunity for you?

In support of our five production Business Units, we have several supporting functions that enable our production effort to be successful – including Logistics, Nuclear Materials Operations, Management & Planning. Each area may have risks to their success, and we need to understand and respond to these risks.

Who are we looking for?

And to do this we now need a Risk Specialist who can work with a Principal Risk Manager and others in a team to help us identify, quantify and respond to risks to maximise our chances of consistent delivery to agreed time, cost and quality measures.

What a typical day could look like:

* Leading with Confidence: Guiding and facilitating risk identification sessions to uncover threats and opportunities in Operations Systems.
* Staying Organized: Documenting risks and action plans clearly in the risk management system for accurate tracking and reporting.
* Collaborating & Reviewing: Partnering with risk owners to conduct regular reviews—updating scores, plans, and controls with clear justifications.
* Supporting Governance: Organising and managing risk governance meetings, preparing info packs, taking minutes, and tracking follow-up actions.
* Shaping the Future: Contributing to the evolution of risk policies, processes, and tools—raising change requests when needed.
* Connecting the Dots: Helping Portfolio and Programme teams understand operational risks by linking related risks for better clarity.
* Planning with Purpose: Creating and maintaining Risk Management Plans using templates, tailoring them to fit specific needs.

We do need you to have the following skills and experience:

* Risk Experience: At least 1 year in professional risk management within a complex or regulated setting.
* Change & Analysis Skills: Delivering portfolio, programme, or project change initiatives—or exposure to quantitative risk analysis.
* Educational Foundation: Minimum of 2 years education in science, business, or engineering.
* Degree Preferred: A BSc or BEng in a relevant field is a plus.
* Certifications: Professional risk qualifications like IRM Certificate/Diploma or Axelos MoR are highly valued.
* Adaptable & Growth-Oriented: Comfortable navigating evolving business needs while championing best practices in risk management.

Work hard, be rewarded:

We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters. In return we offer balance, with award winning benefits including:

* 9-day working fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.
* Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions).
* Family friendly policies: Maternity Leave - 39 Weeks Full Pay and Paternity Leave - 4 Weeks Full Pay.
* Opportunities for Professional Career Development including funding for annual membership of a relevant professional body.
* Life Assurance (4 x annual salary).
