Main duties of the job This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced haematology/BMT nurse to join the Specialist nursing team working in the Wessex Regional Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit based in University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust to cover 12 month secondment for maternity leave cover. The Wessex Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit in Southampton provides regional services for patients requiring blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapies for a wide range of haematological conditions. The unit opened in 2001 and now performs over 180 transplants per year, and has some of the best outcomes in the country. Patients are referred from throughout the Wessex Region, including the Channel Islands Our specialist nursing team consists of Lead Nurse for BMT, Senior CNS, BMT and CT CNS, allogeneic and autologous specialist nurse transplant co-ordinators and administrative care co-ordinators. We provide patient centred care to patients undergoing transplantation from the point of referral to the service, during their inpatient stay, and then during recovery both in the outpatient and day case setting. The service is always evolving and you will be contributing to the development of these services in particularly the nurse led aspects. The transplant service has full accreditation with both JACIE (Joint Accreditation Committee of ICE and EBMT) and the HTA (Human Tissue Authority), and within this role you will contribute to the ongoing Quality Management programme and any future inspections of the service. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities As the BMT and CT CNS you will have primary responsibility for the provision of specialist nursing for people undergoing CAR T and cellular therapies, blood and marrow transplantation, practicing autonomously as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team. You will work closely with all members of the co-ordination team. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in transplant and cellular therapy nursing and undertake a range of nurse led activities. You will be the identified key worker for a patient/client caseload to co-ordinate treatment and care. You will provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, carers and other health care professionals. You will work with the transplant team to provide seamless care for patients undergoing CAR T, blood and marrow transplantation. You will work with the transplant team to help continue with the development of the service. You will be involved in the development and delivery of transplant nursing education and have key responsibilities in relation to governance particularly the policies relating to your area of cellular therapy. The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of the care of a patient undergoing blood or marrow transplant, and treatments for haematological malignancies. You will need to have recent relevant experience of working at band 6 or above within this speciality.
