Responsibilities: We own the design and evolution of backend services, including architecture, coding standards, and system design. We build and maintain production-grade services using modern backend technologies. We deliver systems that are scalable, reliable, and performant, supporting growing user demand. We make sound architectural decisions, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability. We develop and operate services within a cloud-native AWS environment, including compute, containerisation, and database layers. We contribute to the evolution of the platform architecture as part of ongoing modernisation efforts. We ensure systems are designed with observability, resilience, and operational efficiency in mind. We drive high standards through code reviews, testing practices, and engineering discipline. We contribute to improving development practices, tooling, and ways of working. We identify and address technical debt, promoting continuous improvement across the platform. We act as a technical authority within the team, raising the bar for backend engineering. We mentor and coach engineers, supporting their technical development and career growth. We share knowledge and contribute to building a high-performing engineering culture. We work closely with product, engineering leadership, and other teams to align on priorities and standards.
