LAB SUPPORT MANAGER
Job Title: Lab Support Manager
Salary: £38,000 to £40,000 per annum
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract, Full Time
Fixed Term Contract Length: 12 months

Location: GSK, Harmire Road, Barnard Castle, County Durham, England, DL12 8DT
We have a 12-month fixed term contract available to cover maternity leave working within the labs for our pharmaceutical client in Barnard Castle. The role requires people management experience, providing effective line management to all members of the lab support team. You will undertake regular performance reviews, providing coaching, mentoring, and driving positive attitudes. Ensure all staff work in a compliant manner, with zero overdue on MiLearning & client learning systems. Responsible for maintaining high standards of housekeeping and meeting requirements such as 5S. Identify and promote team benefits/innovations. Drive a strong health and safety culture, ensuring RAMS are in place and reviewed timely, hazard observations are raised, supporting KPI requirements. This hands-on role requires operator experience in HPLC and a strong understanding of a GxP environment.
Main Duties
We are seeking a dedicated individual to manage and control activities of a laboratory team, ensuring services are delivered according to specifications, performance standards, and KPIs. The role emphasizes team resilience to ensure critical tasks continue without disruption during absences. The successful candidate will adopt and promote ALCOA+ principles—ensuring data is attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, and accurate.
Key responsibilities include ensuring all PQ activities are completed within schedule, maintaining 100% learning profile completion, and ensuring health and safety compliance through timely review of RAMS and hazard observations. Flexibility to adapt to urgent changes in plant production schedules is essential. The role involves attending governance meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining strong client relationships.
What We Are Looking For
Applicants should have a degree in a science subject, preferably chemistry, with over three years of laboratory experience and familiarity with GxP procedures. At least one year of people management experience is required. Hands-on experience with HPLC and Empower is essential; familiarity with MERPs or SAP is advantageous. The candidate should be enthusiastic, confident, and capable of working independently under pressure, with strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
