Job description
Do you enjoy tax technical research and solving complex technical queries? We are looking for a talented individual at Manager level, from either a corporate or mixed tax background, to be part of our national Central Technical Team. The ideal candidate will have very strong technical skills, drive, and curiosity.
The Central Technical team works together with teams across the tax practice to collect, create, curate, and communicate technical insight for the benefit of our teams and clients. This involves both carrying out original research and analysing knowledge submissions to produce and maintain technical resources to support our teams in delivering work to clients, assisting with complex technical queries, producing tax technical newsletters, and monitoring important tax technical developments arising as a result of case law or the annual Budget and Finance Bill process. The team works closely with the separate Tax Policy team as required.
We are currently expanding the team to increase our technical expertise, accelerate our collection of detailed guidance, and ensure our reference materials are current and technologically advanced, including new AI tools.
Team members are based all over the UK, supporting hybrid and flexible working. While the role is not directly client-facing, it is essential that the candidate understands the issues facing clients.
Responsibilities
1. Producing technical reference and thought leadership materials on specified topics.
2. Undertaking directed research to draft technical reference materials based on legislation, case law, and tax authority guidance, incorporating insights from existing resources, subject matter experts, and other sources.
3. Maintaining and updating materials promptly in response to legal and practice changes.
4. Supporting client service teams with complex technical queries as needed.
5. Engaging with HMRC and HMT on relevant issues, including responses to consultations.
6. Collaborating with technology specialists to develop new tools, including AI, for technical research.
7. Providing technical support to the learning team, including developing and reviewing training content.
What we require from you:
1. Relevant legal or tax qualification (CTA or equivalent).
2. A broad understanding of the UK tax system and ability to learn new regimes quickly.
3. Confidence in interpreting legislation and case law, with basic legal research skills.
4. Strong writing skills.
5. Awareness of tax technology tools, including AI, is desirable but not essential.
6. Experience in delivering practical advice to clients is desirable but not essential.
