Treatment Room Nurse (Maternity Cover) - Millom
We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Treatment Room Nurse to cover a maternity leave position at Waterloo House Surgery, Millom.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out treatment room duties across the week, providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. Cervical cytology training is desirable, although not essential. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with relevant experience, able to work flexibly and as part of a team. This is a maternity leave cover post, offering a contract for a 9 month period. The successful candidate will be required to work 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the delivery of care to Practice patients, providing treatments, preventative care, screening and patient education and monitoring for specified long term conditions through high quality evidence based care to meet the health and social needs of the Practice population. Working within the boundaries set out by the regulated profession, and working collaboratively with the General Practice Team, meet the needs of patients by providing quality evidence based care.

Job responsibilities

1. Communication
1) Communicates effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team using a variety of media. 2) Refers when necessary to general practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Reception & Admin Team, Paramedics, Accident and Emergency, Secondary Care, District nurses, Community MDT, social workers, mental health team, and Social Care Teams. 3) Supports primary care nurses with advice. 4) Communicates with reception staff regarding patient information. 5) Recognises and effectively manages situations where there are barriers to effective communication. 6) Facilitates a range of non-medicinal therapies including lifestyle change and social prescribing. 7) Promotes personalised shared decision making to support adherence and concordance with treatment.
2. Clinical Skills
Undertakes skills and roles expected of a Treatment Room Practice Nurse, including: collection of pathology specimens (blood, urine, swabs), injections within competency and training, wound care and suture/clip removal, ECGs, sexual health screening, therapeutic drug monitoring, immunisations, lifestyle advice (smoking cessation, alcohol, weight management), cervical cytology, compression bandaging and Doppler assessments, contraceptive advice, CHD and anticoagulation monitoring, travel health, asthma/COPD and diabetes management. Delivers high standard of care without discrimination and supports patient self-care. Adapts to change, recognises limitations, and escalates as needed.
3. Organisational Skills
Aware of and complies with CH policies and procedures; adapts to change; ensures equipment and supplies are maintained; participates in clinical governance, audits, and risk assessment; contributes to infection control and community health improvements.
4. Professional
Ensures care is evidence-based, complies with NMC code, maintains confidentiality, reports adverse incidents, maintains professional development and attendance at mandatory training, and engages in risk management and safeguarding policies.
5. Training and Educational
Engages in practical and theoretical education to develop GPN skills, keeps up to date with evidence-based practice, lifelong learning, completes mandatory training, participates in in-house training and supervision, and supports practice development as a mentor/clinical assessor where appropriate.
