The Role – Marine Ecologist
Take the opportunity to work in an outstandingly beautiful and diverse coastal marine environment in Scotland.
You will be involved in planning and overseeing the delivery of a range of projects in accordance with current legislation and best practice guidance.
Our current portfolio of marine projects relates to creation of new ports as well as upgrades and maintenance for existing ports. Whilst marine projects develop, there will also be a requirement to support the general workload of the wider ecology team, where appropriate.
You will support the growth of the company including maintaining a solid reputation for high quality, pragmatic and professional marine ecology advice.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
* Produce and oversee the production of technical reports and other bespoke documents for Environmental Impact Assessments & Habitat Regulations Appraisals as well as Marine Mammal and Fish Risk Assessments and licencing.
* Undertake data analysis and interpretation of intertidal and benthic habitat surveys
* Act as Project Manager with responsibility for delivering projects within timescale and budget. Provide project forecasting and liaise with stakeholders and suppliers.
* Create detailed maps and models of coastal zones and surrounding landscape
* Providing advice on survey requirements, mitigation, enhancement and management to internal and external clients with support from the senior team.
* Collaborate on the design and execution of coastal marine ecology surveys in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards. Liaise with subcontractors to carry out marine surveys.
* Drive business development commensurate with your level and experience.
* Provide specific support relative to your own discipline to the other teams.
* Provide general support to the ecology team, outside of own specialism, including reports and fieldwork
Experienced Required:
* 4+ years in marine ecology, preferably in a consultancy setting but negotiable
* Solid understanding of marine ecosystems and their interactions with human activities
* Experience with EIA, HRA and Marine Mammal/Fish Risk Assessments and licencing
* Knowledge Scottish planning policy and legislation in relation to the marine environment
* Excellent report writing, communication, data management and analysis
* Desk study and/or field surveying to identify ecological baselines
* QGIS or ARC GIS skills
* Commercial awareness from experience in consultancy with an established professional network
* Work well in a high-performing team within a fast-paced environment
* A degree in marine ecology, biology, environmental science or a related discipline.
Desirable Qualities:
* Membership of CIEEM or another relevant organisation
* Full UK driving licence
* Knowledge and experience of designing and/or delivering marine habitat restoration and enhancement.
* Experience in surveying for additional terrestrial or freshwater species/habitats

The standard working week is 35 hours.
In the unlikely event that longer working hours are required during the summer months then time off in lieu (TOIL) / Overtime applies to compensate for additional hours worked, in accordance with Overtime/TOIL policy.
