Overview
Volunteer Treasurer, Sussex Pathways, Sussex Pathways
Sussex Pathways works with prison leavers and victims of crime. We seek a qualified accountant to join the board of trustees as Treasurer.
What difference will you make?
The role of the board is to provide the environment and support the CEO, staff and volunteers to deliver against growth opportunities and challenges. New trustees strengthen Sussex Pathways' ability to tackle these challenges and enable us to support more vulnerable and disadvantaged prison leavers and provide reconciliation for victims and perpetrators of crime in the region.
What are we looking for?
* Trustees committed to our work supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged prison leavers and victims of crime.
* Willingness to work with the Board and staff, sharing responsibility for governance of a small but active charity in a regulated sector.
* A Treasurer who is a qualified accountant with relevant experience of financial management; board experience is desirable.
* Background in the criminal justice system is not essential; attitude, motivation, flexibility and commitment are important.
What will you be doing?
Sussex Pathways is an established charity recognised within the criminal justice establishment and local community for helping prison leavers lead better lives and implementing Restorative Justice in Sussex. Growth comes from expanding support for prison leavers from HMP Lewes and other local prisons, new programmes preparing prison leavers for release, and the increasing importance of Sussex Pathways to the Restorative Justice programme of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.
Recent success includes new funding streams and an expanded staff team. New board members bring senior experience from the criminal justice and voluntary sectors under leadership of a new Chair. The Treasurer will help ensure financial management meets current and future needs, working with the CEO and staff, with support from the Chair and board.
Board involvement: four meetings per year (one includes the Annual General Meeting). Treasurers may contribute to subcommittees or projects as needed, and will lead financial governance recommendations with the CEO and staff.
