* Morning Setup and Welcome

Arrival and Settling In: Reception teachers greet the children as they arrive, helping them settle into the classroom. This might include hanging up coats, organizing belongings, and offering support as children adjust to the school environment.

Register and Attendance: Taking attendance, checking who's present, and ensuring everyone is accounted for.

Morning Circle Time: A short, interactive session where teachers and students discuss the day's schedule, weather, and any special events. Teachers may use this time to review the calendar, practice days of the week, and introduce new concepts.

* Structured Learning Activities

Phonics and Literacy: A key part of Reception is introducing children to the alphabet, sounds, and basic reading skills. The teacher may lead phonics games, read aloud to the children, and guide them in practicing writing their names or simple words.

Mathematics: Reception teachers use hands-on activities to help children understand basic numbers, shapes, counting, and simple addition or subtraction. This often involves interactive play with counters, number lines, and games.

Creative Arts: Drawing, painting, singing, and playing music are integral to developing children's creativity and fine motor skills. The teacher might lead an arts and crafts activity or help children experiment with different materials.

* Outdoor Play and Physical Activity

Physical Education: Reception teachers often take their students outside to engage in physical activities. This could be running games, balancing exercises, or structured play, which helps develop gross motor skills.

Outdoor Learning: Teachers might incorporate learning into outdoor play, such as nature walks, exploring shapes and colors in the environment, or simply providing time for free play in a safe and supervised space.

* Afternoon Learning and Play

Thematic Learning: Reception classes often follow a theme (e.g., "animals," "the weather," "my family") that integrates learning across subjects. The teacher plans activities such as storytelling, science experiments, or group discussions around the theme.

Independent and Group Play: Children engage in self-directed activities, such as puzzles, blocks, or pretend play, while the teacher observes and steps in to guide learning. This is important for developing independence, decision-making, and cooperation.

* Reflection and Closing

End of Day Reflection: The teacher may gather the children for a short reflection session, where they talk about what they learned or enjoyed most during the day. This helps reinforce concepts and gives children a chance to express themselves.

Preparation for Departure: As the day ends, the teacher prepares students for pick-up. This includes tidying up, making sure all personal belongings are collected, and ensuring students are safely handed over to parents or guardians.

* Administrative Tasks (After School)

After the children leave, the teacher spends time preparing for the next day's lessons, marking work, and planning future activities. They may also complete reports on children's progress, attend staff meetings, or meet with parents to discuss any concerns.

Throughout the day, a Reception teacher must maintain a warm, nurturing, and supportive environment while also managing classroom behavior and helping each child develop important academic and social skills
