The Opportunity:
The joining of SLR and Wardell Armstrong brings together a team of approximately 150 ecologists across the UK. The Ecology team is highly successful, and due to continued success in delivering ecology/environmental oversight to construction projects, we are looking to appoint experienced ecologists with a main focus on Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW). The role will be open to applicants seeking 6-month, 12-month, or permanent contracts. Project work will be varied, with a strong focus on renewable energy and infrastructure. Successful applicants should be willing to stay away from home for an average of four nights a week, sometimes including Sunday nights.
In this role you will:
1. Be an integral member of our client’s delivery team;
2. Work alongside ecologists and engineers;
3. Be responsible for ecology data collection;
4. Design and implement ecology mitigation (e.g., management plans, non-licensed method statements, licensed method statements);
5. Deliver pragmatic and timely solutions to ecological constraints;
6. Procure and engage with subcontractors.
As a successful candidate you will:
1. Hold a degree in ecology or a related discipline;
2. Hold a valid CSCS card;
3. Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a similar role;
4. Be a ‘qualifying member’ or higher of CIEEM or another relevant institute;
5. Have a flexible approach to work and willingness to develop new ecology field skills, including working during unsociable hours;
6. Be willing to work away from home for 3-4 nights a week (expenses paid);
7. Be self-motivated with strong communication skills and able to work as part of a team;
8. Hold personal species licenses covering bats, GCN, otter (desirable but not essential);
9. Hold a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle.
