The Greenway Medical Practice has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic GP to join our team of doctors and advanced practitioners, for 6-8 sessions per week.

We are open to applications from both newly qualified and experienced GPs looking for a part-time salaried role.

You will join a team of four GPs and four advanced practitioners to deliver acute services to a population of 9,500 patients in the friendly, semi-urban town of Cleckheaton.

We offer 6 weeks annual leave and one week study leave (pro-rata), plus sick/maternity/paternity pay in line with the BMA standard contract.


Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the contract.

Furthermore, the post holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.


About us

Mission: The Greenway Medical Practice is committed to providing high quality, individualized holistic care to all our patients, and promoting health and wellbeing in a safe and welcoming space.

We offer primary medical services and long term condition monitoring, plus access to pharmacists, first contact physiotherapists, mental health practitioners, and minor surgery.

The practice operates a partnership model of 3 GP partners, and has a dedicated practice manager to run the business and operations.

The clinical team is well supported by a team of experienced receptionists trained in care navigation, and administrative support staff.

We received a rating of 'Good' in our last CQC inspection, and was rated best overall practice in Kirklees in the 2024 Patient Survey.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the contract.

Furthermore, the post holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Primary Key Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.

* a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
* b. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
* c. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly, referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
* d. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
* e. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
* f. Effective management of long-term conditions
* g. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
* h. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles
* i. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
* j. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
* k. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
* l. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
* m. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
* n. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
* o. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
* p. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF
* q. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
* r. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
* s. Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
* t. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
* u. Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
* v. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
* w. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
* x. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
* y. To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
* z. Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines
* aa. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
* bb. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels


Person Specification


Knowledge and Skills

* Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Good MS Office and clinical system IT knowledge
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GP colleagues
* Experience of triage and the ability to effectively assess and diagnose
* Ability to listen whilst being honest and caring and be both sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations
* Understanding of the local pathology tests processes and the ability to processing the results with advising patients accordingly
* Ability to assess and manage acute deteriorations /exacerbations of long-term conditions
* Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Knowledge of health promotion strategies
* Experience of medicines management
* Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
* Understanding and knowledge of QOF and enhanced service


Experience

* Ability to both work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
* Experience of providing home visits
* Experience of QOF and clinical audit
* General understanding of the primary care contract
* Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice
* Minimum of two years as a salaried GP
* An appreciation of the NHS landscape and relationship between individual organisations, PCNs and the commissioners


Qualifications

* Qualified GP
* MRCGP
* Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
* General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
* Full GMC registration
* National Performers List registration (England), noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation
* Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
* Evidence of current validation
* Evidence of last appraisal
* Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
