Transport Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to join a fast-paced and growing manufacturing and distribution operation.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a national fleet operation, ensuring efficient deliveries across the UK while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, safety, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving operational excellence, leading transport teams, improving fleet efficiency, and supporting continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the day-to-day operation of a mixed fleet of articulated HGVs and light commercial vehicles
• Plan and coordinate nationwide delivery schedules and collection routes to maximise fleet utilisation
• Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation, and Working Time Directive rules
• Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator Licence
• Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting processes
• Monitor driver performance, driver hours, and fleet compliance standards
• Lead and support drivers and loading teams through effective management, coaching, and development
• Coordinate closely with warehouse, production, and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations
• Manage transport costs, fuel usage, and operational efficiencies
• Investigate incidents, delays, and compliance issues while implementing corrective actions
• Promote a strong health and safety culture across all transport activities
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer service
Requirements:
• CPC in Road Haulage (National or International)
• Valid HGV Category C+E licence
• Up-to-date Driver CPC qualification
• Proven experience within a Transport Manager or similar fleet management role
• Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
• Experience managing mixed fleets and transport operations
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• A proactive and hands-on management style
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to perform well under pressure
