Join McArthur BDC as a Lead Mechanical Installer
Location: Scunthorpe-based, with travel across the UK
Type: Full-time, permanent
Role Overview:
Take the lead on installing grain drying, storage, and processing systems on farms and commercial sites. You'll work alongside technicians and subcontractors, set safety standards, and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery. Work closely with customers and project managers to keep installations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead installation of grain equipment (elevators, conveyors, silos, ducting, steelwork)
* Coordinate site activities, plant, tooling, and deliveries
* Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and manage permits (working at height, hot works, confined spaces)
* Supervise and coach technicians/subcontractors
* Read and update drawings; close snagging lists
* Manage lifting operations (crane/telehandler/MEWP)
* Support commissioning and keep progress updated in simPRO
Requirements:
* 5+ years' experience installing mechanical plant in industrial/agricultural settings
* Site leadership and team supervision skills
* Strong mechanical skills (assembly, alignment, levelling)
* Competent with safe systems of work and lifting operations
* Able to read technical drawings and instructions
* IT literate (reporting, photos, job management systems)
* Full UK driving licence; willing to travel and stay away
Desirable:
* Experience with grain drying/storage equipment
* Certifications: CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, IPAF, CPCS/NPORS, First Aid, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels
* Appointed Person (Lifting) or Lift Supervisor; Confined Space awareness
* Basic electrical knowledge
