The Opportunity
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will join an established team of Ground Engineers in the Northeast region, located in the AECOM Newcastle Office, and working closely with colleagues across the UK & Ireland. You will work on projects such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, H2Teesside, High Speed Rail, and international works like the Royal Commission of Al Ula.
Responsibilities
* Apply geotechnical design, working with independence and supporting junior team members.
* Lead the geotechnical input to projects from desk study/feasibility through to ground investigation, interpretation, and final design, including preparation of specifications, ground investigation reports, construction drawings and geotechnical design reports.
* Oversee projects ensuring adherence to programme and budget.
Qualifications
* BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc and/or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) status preferred or on track to achieve within the next year.
* Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
* Demonstrable understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices, with openness to innovation.
* Ability to collaborate closely in project delivery and maintain high client satisfaction.
* Familiarity with data management software (e.g., Leapfrog, Open Ground) advantageous.
* Well‑rounded experience in geotechnical design (e.g., earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilisation) with strong analytical skills and confidence in design software such as Bentley Slope/W, Rocscience Settle 3D, Oasys ALP, and Geosolve Wallap.
* Experience in producing geotechnical analysis and design packages, including drawings, risk assessments, specifications and design reports.
* Application of CDM Regulations / Safety in Design.
* Experience with standards and processes in specialised fields (e.g., highways, railways) desirable.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to produce clear technical reports and deliver confident presentations.
* Willingness to travel throughout the UK.
