Job Purpose
As the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader, you will directly manage a team of up to 20 Grounds Maintenance Operatives across a defined geographical area to deliver on-site maintenance activities through effective performance management, motivation and staff development. Reporting to the Grounds Maintenance Manager, you will provide technical input and support to ensure all activities are completed in line with planned maintenance schedules.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
* Manage a team of up to 20 Grounds Maintenance Operatives, including temporary workers during the summer growing season, covering attendance, disciplinary and performance management.
* Assist in the development of daily plans to achieve the Grounds maintenance plan for each site.
* Assist in the development of the winter work plan for the area.
* Carry out physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment.
* Record work completed on the corporate system.
* Adhere to Health and Safety requirements and comply with relevant regulations and company policy.
* Identify site standard improvements and winter work during scheduled visits.
* Ensure customer needs are understood and drive high levels of customer satisfaction.
* Share best practice and drive consistency across the region.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with site teams and encourage flexible cooperation.
* Maintain strong communication across a large geographical area.
* Engage the Grounds Maintenance team on issues such as biodiversity, environmental legislation and H&S.
* Ensure H&S compliance through audits and risk assessment reviews.
* Carry out team briefs, appraisals and 1‑2‑1s.
Technical Skills & Experience
* Good technical knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment and herbicide use.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills.
* High degree of social skills for a customer‑oriented environment.
* Practical experience in outdoor work and machinery, including ride‑on mowers, strimmers, blowers and hedge cutters.
* Experience in information technology and the use of computers and software.
* Accredited grounds maintenance qualifications such as City & Guilds or Lantra.
* Ability to achieve Pesticide Application PA1 & PA6.
Qualifications
* Full driving licence (required for commuting between two sites in the Manchester region).
