Context
The Energy Systems Catapult Operations Team is recruiting due to significant demand for our services from within the business. The Operations Team supports development and deployment of assets like the Living Lab, Net Zero Go, and Warm Home Prescription. We need two additional team members to support ongoing operations, new initiatives, and product support.
Living Lab is a UK-wide group of homes sharing energy data for trials on eco-technologies, supporting the UK’s net Zero goal by 2050. The Lab has grown from 100 to 2,500 homes, with increasing interest from industry and academia. Our team assists with data sharing, hardware installation, tech support, and trial management.
Warm Home Prescription enables NHS-tracked individuals with chronic illnesses impacted by cold to receive prescriptions for warm homes. Our team ensures smooth operation and development of this initiative through New Product Introduction (NPI).
Net Zero Go is a platform for local authorities to run projects contributing to Net Zero, providing tools and information. It has grown to 750 users in over a year, with positive feedback.
The Role
This role is pivotal in enhancing operations for Living Lab trials and other assets through communication, task management, reporting, and strategic engagement. The ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, simple language for diverse audiences is essential. The role involves facilitating the smooth setup and operation of assets, ensuring continuous improvement and user consideration. It offers exposure to a broad range of Net Zero projects and opportunities to develop communication and problem-solving skills.
The main responsibilities include:
* Supporting technical support for consumers, participants, and local authorities via various platforms, including query responses, trial administration, tracking progress, and incentive payments.
* Interfacing with stakeholders such as participants, colleagues, and partners through strong communication skills.
* Reviewing reports for data quality using Tableau, investigating gaps, and escalating issues.
* Reporting and tracking platform bugs.
* Managing daily priorities and escalating as needed.
* Contributing to risk and quality assessments.
* Supporting installation and decommissioning of technologies like smart thermostats, tracking installations, stock, and liaising with participants and installers.
* Ensuring GDPR compliance (training provided).
* Adhering to operational and business procedures.
The role reports to the Operations Manager within the Digital Capability team and provides a valuable opportunity to understand challenges in decarbonisation and the UK’s Net Zero journey.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and adapt communication styles for diverse audiences, including vulnerable consumers. Calmness and reassurance are essential when engaging with the public.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, maintaining clear and accessible documentation.
Collaborative, flexible, and capable of working cross-functionally with internal and external teams. Prioritization skills are important.
Willingness to learn new skills and support tools, with training provided. A focus on continuous improvement is necessary as our assets grow.
Desired Skills and Experience
Interest in decarbonisation and the energy sector.
Experience in customer service or similar roles.
Problem-solving skills, especially applying methodical approaches to prevent recurring issues.
Experience analyzing large datasets using reports and queries within Tableau.
Knowledge of GDPR compliance.
Experience managing trials and products, including New Product Introduction.
Experience working in cross-functional project teams.
