Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Manchester is a vibrant, proudly diverse global city—a major cultural and economic hub shaped by its rich history of migration, industrial innovation, and multi-faith communities. We are seeking an analytically minded, objective Religious Education (RE) Teacher to join an established voluntary controlled school. In this role, you will challenge students to critically explore the world's major theological frameworks, philosophical traditions, and complex ethical systems, utilizing the city's unique multi-cultural identity to foster objective textual analysis and rigorous academic debate.

The School

Operating as a voluntary controlled (VC) secondary school, our land and buildings are typically owned by a charitable foundation or religious body, but our curriculum, admissions, and employment are managed entirely by the Local Authority. This structure allows us to maintain deep-rooted historical and values-driven traditions while operating as a fully inclusive, diverse neighbourhood school. We implement highly consistent, school-wide behaviour routines that ensure classrooms remain quiet, respectful, and highly focused spaces. By maintaining an orderly learning environment, we protect our teachers' time, allowing you to focus entirely on high-level subject delivery and philosophical inquiry.

The Department & Philosophical Framework

* You will join a highly collaborative, successful Humanities faculty that treats Religious Education as a rigorous academic and sociological discipline.

* The department utilizes resource-rich classrooms designed to facilitate structured debate, textual deconstruction, and independent research.

* Our curriculum explicitly links theological concepts to contemporary ethical debates, exploring how historical belief structures influence modern social, legal, and political landscapes.

* Staff benefit from shared planning pools and centralized resource banks, allowing the team to deliver deep, challenging units while keeping individual marking workloads highly manageable.

Core Responsibilities

1. High-Challenge RE Instruction: Planning and delivering rigorous Religious Education lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), pushing students to achieve top-tier academic results.

2. Theological & Ethical Analysis: Training students to objectively dismantle complex text and arguments—ranging from ancient scriptures to modern ethical philosophy—evaluating intent, perspective, and logic.

3. Advanced Written Literacy: Systematically developing students' ability to produce sophisticated, evidence-based analytical essays and evaluative prose with absolute structural clarity.

4. Data-Driven Intervention: Utilizing granular assessment tracking to identify learning gaps early, providing targeted feedback to maximize student progress ahead of terminal GCSE examinations.

5. Form Tutor Duties: Leading a dedicated form group, acting as the primary point of academic, pastoral, and holistic support for a cohort of students.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for an ambitious subject specialist who values academic objectivity and has the drive to cultivate exceptional critical thinking across a diverse student body. Your profile should include:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Theology, or a closely related humanities discipline.

* Academic Rigor: The capacity to deliver outstanding progress outcomes in terminal GCSE examinations while presenting religious and non-religious worldviews with absolute neutrality.

* Consistent Behaviour Management: The ability to implement school routines with warmth and rigor, maintaining a highly focused, positive learning environment.

* Collaborative Ethos: A positive professional team player who enjoys sharing resources, discussing pedagogy, and contributing to the growth of the whole department.

Why Join Our Faculty?

* The distinct satisfaction of teaching within an inclusive voluntary controlled school that celebrates a diverse student body while benefiting from robust local authority support.

* Continuous professional development (CPD) focusing on cognitive science, advanced questioning, and clear pathways into middle leadership.

* The exceptional lifestyle benefits of living and working in Manchester—a culturally rich, energetic city offering a world-class arts scene, legendary heritage, affordable urban living, and superb public transport via the Metrolink network.

* A supportive senior leadership team that respects teacher autonomy and implements a sustainable, evidence-based approach to teacher workload.
