We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sr. Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee payroll operations for our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll processing, tax compliance, and labor cost analysis within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely and accurate payroll execution in compliance with federal, state, and union regulations, and plays a key role in supporting cost accounting and labor efficiency reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Process bi-weekly or weekly payroll for hourly, salaried, employees. Including piece-rate payroll/pay per unit payroll.
Verify timekeeping records, overtime hours, shift differentials, and job classifications.
Coordinate closely with HR and operations to ensure accuracy in employee data, pay rates, bonuses, and benefit deductions.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including FLSA, IRS, and Department of Labor standards.
Reconcile payroll transactions and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
Prepare and file payroll tax returns and ensure timely remittance of payroll liabilities.
Support internal and external audits by providing payroll reports, labor records, and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with production and cost accounting teams to provide accurate labor cost reporting and analysis.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll and employee data.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Strong understanding of payroll regulations, multi-state tax laws, and labor union agreements.
Proficient in payroll and accounting software.
Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) is a plus.
Experience with time tracking systems used in manufacturing.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and labor cost optimization strategies.
