Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will offer high quality day to day care of patients and deliver a first class clinical service to include outpatient/diagnostic clinics, day case theatre procedures, elective theatre activity, in patient care as required and support for on call work with acute urological admissions.
The appointed fellows will provide senior surgical input to emergency general surgery patients at all stages from initial triage and assessment to surgery and post-operative care. Duties include oncall at middle grade level with access to emergency theatre if the fellow is on call or assessment/admission of emergencies in A&E, surgical assessment unit/SCDU when on normal duties.
The successful candidates will be able to rotate between Upper GI and Lower GI with dedicated MDTS. The role will predominately include ward cover across the Department. There will also be potential for involvement with in-patient and day case operating sessions with general surgery and Urology at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch. The successful candidate will also have exposure to outpatient clinics and outpatient diagnostic testing.
Person Specification
Teaching Experience
* Essential:
o Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
o Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Desirable:
o Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Management and Administrative Experience
* Essential:
o Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
o Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.
Experience
* Essential:
o Completed at least 2 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies, at least eight months of which will be in a relevant specialty.
o Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST1 level in relevant specialty.
o Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
o Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience.
o Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Desirable:
o Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty.
o Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Qualifications
* Essential:
o Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
o MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
o Satisfactory completion of F1 training, or equivalent.
* Desirable:
o Higher degree.
o ALS Certification.
o ATLS Certification.
o Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.
