About the Business Unit
Our Wales business unit is a dynamic, fast‑paced environment delivering a broad range of civil engineering works across multiple sectors. These include:
• Rail infrastructure (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels and more)
• Environment Agency projects
• Local Authority schemes
• Multi‑disciplinary civils projects across the region
Current programmes include CP6 infrastructure works, minor civils packages, and Environment Agency frameworks. Typical project scopes involve bridge reconstruction and replacement, structural upgrades and refurbishments, station enhancements (including Access for All), and a variety of structural works such as tunnels and footbridges.
The Role
As a Senior Site Engineer, you will report to the Site Agent or Project Manager and take ownership of the weekly planning and delivery of site‑based works. This role operates Monday to Friday, with regular weekend and night‑shift working to support possession‑based activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead on-site Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) compliance across all activities
• Review and interpret project drawings, specifications and technical documentation
• Carry out accurate setting out and surveying
• Ensure engineering activities are delivered professionally, systematically and to the highest standards
• Supervise site operations, including direct labour, plant and subcontractors
• Maintain detailed and accurate site records, including daily diaries
• Manage material take‑offs and procurement
• Plan and coordinate daily and weekly works, including weekend/night possession activities
• Support the development of Risk Assessments, Work Package Plans, Inspection Test Plans and associated documentation
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership and support to subcontractors and junior engineers
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring proven experience as a Site Engineer, ideally within rail or multi‑disciplinary civil engineering environments. You’ll be confident in setting out, planning works, and leading site teams in a fast‑moving project environment.
Qualifications
• Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering
• PTS (Personal Track Safety)
Experience
• Strong setting out and surveying capability
• Experience planning and delivering site works, including producing and reviewing ITPs, WPPs and Task Briefs
• Working towards professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, MAPM) is desirable
