NRC Mental Health Occupational Therapist

Here at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) you will join an innovative, forward thinking team with the collective objective of providing first class rehabilitation to our patients.

The role of the NRC Mental Health Occupational Therapist is integral to the patient journey working as part of the interdisciplinary team, alongside the Occupational Therapy and Psychological Health teams, in delivering effective mental health assessment and interventions to maximise patient rehabilitation outcomes. You will be an autonomous HCPC registered team member providing a high standard of assessment and treatment/management of patients, many of whom will have complex rehabilitation needs.

Person Specification


Training and Qualifications

* BSc Hons (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
* Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
* Evidence of maintaining professional competence through C.P.D.
* Member of relevant Specialist Interest Group
* First line management course.
* Clinical Educators Course.
* Evidence of post-graduate training in complex rehabilitation/mental health


Experience

* Broad based junior rotational experience across a range of clinical settings
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team, working within and across professional and organisational boundaries
* Knowledge of national and local standards, professional guidelines and relevant legal frameworks
* Experience in evaluation of practice. Appraisal of performance.
* Experience of mentoring, inducting, teaching and training students / junior staff
* Experience of clinical leadership implementing service development
* Experience of providing feedback on individual performance
* Have previously worked in the NHS
* Previous Band 6 Experience
* Experience of audit
* Experience of using evidence based psychological skills within Occupational Therapy practice
* Experience in working with patients with mental health conditions or in complex rehabilitation settings


Communication and Relationship Skills

* Ability to communicate complex information both verbally and in writing
* Ability to identify training opportunities and motivate, train and teach.
* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships to support team working with the clinical and wider multidisciplinary teams
* Ability to constructively challenge others and formulate resolutions in conflict situations
* Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathic manner to patients, carers and staff
* Demonstrate leadership ability.


Analytical and Judgement Skills

* Ability to assess, formulate a diagnosis and plan patient management using clinical reasoning skills and a range of treatment options.
* Risk assessment skills for the safe management and discharge of complex patients
* Evaluation of clinical interventions
* Ability to identify own learning needs and work autonomously as required
* Experience of performance management.


Planning and Organisation Skills

* Ability to organise and prioritise own and other's workload.
* Experience of effective delegation.
* Ability to collate appropriate evidence in relation to training provision
* Demonstrate leadership skills


Physical Skills

* Demonstrate IT literacy
* Able to handle and move patients safely in a way that promotes rehabilitation
* Ability to adapt to changing priorities.


Other Requirements

* Able to travel to required areas within and beyond the Trust, working flexibly across all NUH campuses
* Undertake out of hours duties (weekends, on calls and Bank Holidays) as required
