Behaviour Evaluation & Review Team (BERT) Project is a pioneering initiative in Western Australia at Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Healthcare Group (SCGOPH) to improve our patient and staff experience. The BERT Model of Care focuses on early identification, assessment and engagement, to prevent behavioural escalations. The consultative service is multidisciplinary focused on a holistic view of care and supporting staff.
What is our Clinical Nurse Specialist (BERT) role?
Our Clinical Nurse Specialists will work within the multidisciplinary BERT team of health professionals and be embedded across SCGOPH, supporting healthcare workers with promoting early identification, assessment and engagement. They will ensure a positive patient experience through early intervention, mentoring and expertise in de-escalation of instances of behaviours of concern and/or Behavioural Disturbance (BD). This approach benefits both patients and staff by fostering a safer and more supportive environment.
We will prioritise experienced nurses who have prior experience in areas and specialisations where patient behaviours of concern may be more prevalent, including Emergency, AOD, Older Adults, Mental Health, Acquired Brain Injury, Dementia and intellectual disability. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act 2014, Guardianship and Administration Act 1990 would also be beneficial. Successful applicants will have the opportunity will be provided with opportunities to augment their existing skills. Please note this is a General CNS role
The BERT pilot is moving into phase 2 with a 7-days-a-week service, requiring CNSs to operate a 12-hour roster as required, including early, late, weekend and public holidays.
