Job Description:

Job Title: Operational Development Technician (Entry Level)
Location: Luxfer
Job Type: Full-time (on-site/day shift with progression to shifts)

About Us: Luxfer is a forward-thinking technology-driven business, where our core values—Customer First, Integrity, Accountability, Innovation, Personal Development, and Teamwork—guide everything we do. We are passionate about developing and manufacturing high-quality products while maintaining long-term partnerships with our customers.

Join us in a dynamic, hands-on role within our operations team and start your career in the exciting chemical industry.

Role Overview: As an Operational Development Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the transfer of new products and processes from our pilot plant to full-scale production. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals eager to develop practical experience and grow within the chemical industry.

You will report to both the New Product Introduction and Operations teams, gaining valuable exposure to all stages of product development, from small-scale internal testing to large pilot plant operations and full-scale manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operate pilot and full-scale equipment including drying, calcination, and milling technologies.
2. Monitor and record process variables; adjust process parameters to maintain control over equipment performance.
3. Conduct in-process analysis, including pH testing, trace impurity levels, particle size, Loss on Drying (LOD), and Loss on Ignition (LOI).
4. Measure, mix, and add chemicals (liquids and powders) in the production process.
5. Pack finished goods into containers for transportation.
6. Communicate effectively with other developers and operators to ensure smooth operations.
7. Ensure safe production practices and maintain high standards of cleanliness in your work areas.
8. Manage your workload efficiently to meet production deadlines.

About You:

You are a motivated individual with a keen interest in hands-on work and a passion for science. You will be trained on all processes and equipment, but a natural curiosity and a desire to learn will help you thrive in this role. You must also have a proactive attitude towards safety and the ability to manage your tasks independently.

Essential Requirements:

1. At least 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or equivalent, including Maths, English, and Science.
2. Level 3 qualification (A Levels or BTEC) in a relevant subject, preferably Chemistry and Maths, with at least a Grade C or Merit.
3. A genuine passion for science and an eagerness to learn and work in a hands-on environment.
4. No formal experience required, though previous work experience in a chemical or industrial setting would be an advantage.
5. Competent IT skills and proficiency with Microsoft programs.

Desirable (But Not Essential):

1. FLT (Forklift Truck) license (training will be provided if necessary).
2. Strong interest or experience in working with numbers, including understanding tables, graphs, and numerical data.
3. Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with equipment or machinery would be advantageous.

Working Hours:

Initially, you will work day shifts while training. Once trained, you will transition to a 2-shift rota (6 am – 2 pm, 2 pm – 10 pm).

Why Join Luxfer?

1. Excellent Career Progression: Opportunities to grow within the R&D department or operations team.
2. Hands-On Experience: Develop valuable hands-on skills by working with cutting-edge equipment and processes.
3. Supportive Environment: Join a team where your personal development is a priority.
4. Competitive Salary: Up to £25k plus benefits, on-site parking, Enhanced pension, and more.

If you’re looking to take the next step in your career and are excited to join an innovative company, apply today!

Luxfer is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and experiences.
