We are seeking
a Portfolio Manager for the Research Portfolio, where you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the digital services and infrastructure that enable and transform research across the University. Location: Dartington House, Oxford
Salary: £65,336 – £75,439 per annum
Contract: Full Time, Fixed Term (Maternity Cover) About the Role
1. As Portfolio Manager for Research, you will work closely with the Portfolio Lead for Research, senior stakeholders, and the Research Portfolio Committee to shape strategic objectives, ensure alignment with Oxford’s technology strategy, and deliver high-impact digital services for our research community.
2. You will be responsible for orchestrating delivery across a diverse portfolio of digital services and strategic investments, ensuring that major projects and programmes are set up for success, value-driven, and responsive to changing needs. With oversight of a significant budget, you will help secure resources, develop compelling investment cases, and ensure value is delivered against portfolio objectives.
3. This role also offers the opportunity to support Oxford’s transition to product management approaches, embedding continuous improvement and agile delivery across research services. Working in a matrix environment, you will provide leadership and direction to multi-disciplinary teams, foster a collaborative culture, and ensure the digital services underpinning Oxford’s research are future-ready.
About You To succeed in this role, you will bring:
4. Substantial experience in digital portfolio or programme management, including delivery of large-scale, complex investments.
5. Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and supporting high-performing teams.
6. Strong financial management skills, including experience overseeing multi-million-pound budgets.
7. Outstanding stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility at senior levels.
