American Express has a long-standing history in the travel industry, dating back to 1915, and today it operates one of the world’s largest luxury travel and lifestyle networks. Our Travel & Lifestyle Services (TLS) division offers exclusive access, value, service, and expertise to Card Members seeking travel and lifestyle services. A strategic focus is our Global Digital Customer Experience, with ongoing investments to enhance our digital offerings, including the upcoming American Express Travel Mobile App, which aims to drive revenue, improve engagement, and boost loyalty and satisfaction.

How will you make an impact in this role?

We seek a highly motivated, independent, and skilled engineer to develop our travel mobile application used worldwide by American Express cardholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and creativity, enjoy solving complex problems, and be passionate about user experience and code quality.

You will work in a fast-paced, small-team environment within a Fortune 100 company, collaborating with designers, product owners, QA, and fellow engineers to develop and enhance features. Familiarity with modern Android development methodologies and the ability to iterate rapidly in a somewhat ambiguous environment are essential.

* Application Solutioning
o Present solutions in forums including senior leadership, gather feedback, and drive sign-offs.
o Document architecture, technical requirements, designs, data models, and infrastructure.
o Conduct comparative analysis on solution options.
* Software Development
o Set up infrastructure and development environments.
o Write and deliver high-quality Kotlin code for Android.
o Lead peer reviews.
o Build monitoring dashboards, logging, and alerting strategies.
o Monitor system performance and improve software quality through root cause analysis.
o Understand infrastructure technologies and core tools used in the software lifecycle.
* Leadership
o Present solutions and progress to leadership.
o Collaborate effectively across teams.
o Mentor junior team members.
o Influence team improvements by challenging the status quo.
o Demonstrate self-reliance to achieve team goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

* 6+ years of software development experience in:
o Android applications with Kotlin
o Build tools like Gradle, GitHub Actions, Circle CI
o Asynchronous programming and CI patterns
o Unit & Integration testing
o Bug fixing and performance optimization
o Designing solutions for open-ended problems
o Experience working in a globally distributed team
o Technical leadership in agile environments

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; advanced degrees are a plus.

Technologies you may encounter include Jetpack Compose, MVI Architecture, REST APIs, OkHttp, Dagger, Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, RxJava, GitHub Actions, Circle CI, Espresso, JUnit, among others.
