Job Title: Product Technical Manager
Location: Towcester - on-site
Salary: £54,700+ depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Offer independent assessment and governance support to a wide variety of design, development and manufacturing programmes to ensure compliance with procedures, product safety, compliance with contractual, legal and regulatory requirements
2. Agree and manage schedules for tailored ELCM design reviews and process confirmations in conjunction with the project management team to ensure the integration of technical and engineering activities across their projects to support product certification
3. Chair design reviews and arrange for design certification with the ATS PTA or Engineering Authority as appropriate to contract
4. Represent the business at quality audits, product integrity and sustainability forums, ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of product designs, with appropriate trade-off between operational performance, environmental performance, affordability, producibility, and supportability
5. Responsible for maintaining ATS tailored engineering processes within the local business management system including oversight of configuration control ensuring that records of all significant Product design decisions are retained
6. Responsible for collating responses for both Engineering and Manufacturing assurance statements along with following up on any deficiency or improvement actions to ensure timely completion
7. Ownership of continuous improvement initiatives within the Microwave Materials business to maximise efficiency, increase capacity and improve sustainability
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
8. Time served or Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering / Scientific discipline, with significant amount of relevant industrial experience in a defence / security environment
9. A reasonable domain knowledge covering some of the following:
- Understanding of the Electromagnetic spectrum (RF/ IR/ EO)
- RF antennas and sensing devices
- Composite structures
- Elastomeric Materials
- Typical qualification standards and directives applicable to Air or Maritime platform products
- Route cause analysis techniques
- Product Safety Engineering techniques
- Competent in the application of Lean Manufacture & Six Sigma techniques
- Continuous professional development through BAE Systems training programmes or externally through recognised professional and technical bodies

The Advanced Technology Solutions team:
The role will involve direct engagement with the Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to provide governance support and independent assessment during the product lifecycle and to seek out opportunities for continuous improvement, process efficiencies and enhancing product safety.
The Product Technical Manager will also support and participate in manufacturing and product focussed Transformation programmes to deliver additional capacity and increase product consistency.
