Location: Hybrid in Leeds or Manchester (1 day per week on-site)
Type: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) – with potential to extend

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong backend development expertise to join our team. The ideal candidate will be confident working with modern Java-based technologies, containerised environments, cloud platforms (Azure), and version control best practices. This role requires on-site collaboration one day per week in either our Leeds or Manchester office.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
* Use Git for version control and collaborative development workflows
* Build and deploy containerised applications using Docker
* Work with asynchronous messaging patterns to ensure scalable and resilient system interactions
* Deploy and manage applications within cloud environments, including Azure
* Contribute to and follow CI/CD best practices for build, test, and deployment pipelines
* Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot
* Proficient in Git for version control
* Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised application development
* Experience working with Microsoft Azure (e.g., App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure DevOps, or related services)
* Understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns (e.g., queues, event-driven architecture)
* Awareness of CI/CD practices and automated pipelines
* Experience working on Central Government or highly regulated projects
Desirable Skills
* Exposure to Kubernetes (K8s)
* Experience working with SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)
* Multi-cloud experience (e.g., AWS and Azure)
