Vacancy Overview
We are seeking an experienced B7 Occupational Therapist for a 12‑month fixed‑term post supporting a secondment and time‑limited project. The role is full‑time (1 wte), with 0.6 wte working primarily in neurosurgery and neurology services and 0.4 wte in the newly‑created Hyper‑Acute Rehab project team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities
The postholder will be part of the wider neurosciences service and will provide senior clinical and operational leadership alongside current senior therapists, supporting the strategic development of the therapy service within neurosciences.
* Deliver patient care as part of a combined therapy services team across a 7‑day service, including weekends and bank holidays on a roster basis.
* Complete specialised neuro‑specific assessments, goal‑directed treatments and multi‑therapy discharge planning.
* Liaise closely with local community services, specialist regional units and local DGHs.
* Provide regular clinical supervision and peer support.
* Engage in audit, research and service development where appropriate.
* Contribute to teaching and education of staff and peer professionals.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* Postgraduate experience of working in the acute hospital setting, including working with neurological patients and undertaking neurological assessments.
* Proven senior experience in acute early rehabilitation of patients with complex needs.
* Clear expressed desire and reasons for working in acute neurological rehabilitation, and within UHS, stated in the application form.
* Evidence of specialist personal development within acute neurosciences, to support enhanced skills and decision making.
* Robust knowledge and understanding of NHS systems.
* Postgraduate experience in supervising other staff and students.
Desirable:
* Evidence of providing teaching to therapy staff and students.
* Demonstrable leadership skills.
