We are seeking experienced and dependable Food Safety professionals to serve as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Exan Writers for an accredited Food Manager Certification Program.
This is a structured exam development project aligned to an updated Job Task Analysis (JTA). The selected SME(s) will collaborate to write new multiple-choice exam items and review/revise existing items to ensure technical accuracy, regulatory alignment, clarity, and defensibility.
This role supports an accredited certification program and is part of a documented, audit-ready development process. Professional reliability, timely communication, and strict adherence to agreed deadlines are essential. Only candidates who can commit to responsive communication and dependable delivery should apply.
SCOPE:
• Write new multiple-choice exam items aligned to assigned JTA domains
• Review and revise existing exam items for technical accuracy and clarity
• Develop plausible and defensible distractors
• Provide brief rationale or references for correct answers
• Revise items based on technical or psychometric feedback
• Participate in structured collaboration with other item writers and program staff to ensure consistency and alignment
• Attend brief virtual working sessions if required
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all materials
• Be available, if requested, for up to two brief virtual accreditation audit interviews this year to confirm participation and role in the development process
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM), REHS, CP-FS, HACCP, or equivalent credential
• Minimum 5 years of food safety experience (regulatory, operations, training, consulting, or auditing)
• Experience writing or reviewing certification or licensure exam questions strongly preferred
• Familiarity with competency-based exam development and Job Task Analysis (JTA) alignment preferred
• Strong written English communication skills
• Ability to meet structured deadlines and maintain consistent communication
• Availability for limited accreditation-related verification activities if required
PROJECT DETAILS:
• Remote
• Estimated 10-20 total hours (final scope dependent on assignment)
• Flexible schedule within defined deadlines
