The Role

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join our busy and supportive theatre departments in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill ACH. You will play a vital role in supporting the smooth and safe running of out theatres, working alongside a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, anaesthetist, ODPs and nurses.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill ACH
* Permanent Contract
* Full‑time (36 hours per week) and Part‑time (33.12 hours per week and 8.12 hours per week) positions available
* Shift pattern for this post is initially day shift – 4 shifts Monday to Friday however an expectancy to be able to be fully rotational 7 days/nights is essential during orientation and training period.
* Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.


Key Responsibilities

* Main duties and responsibilities would be to assist in preparing operating theatres before and after surgical procedures.
* Transport of patients to and from theatres ensuring comfort, safety and dignity.
* Support for clinical staff when preparing patients for surgery.
* Maintaining cleanliness and infection control standards in all theatre areas.
* Handle and manage surgical instruments, equipment and sterile supplies.
* Carry out stock checks and ensuring adequate supplies of consumables.
* Assist in emergency situations following protocols under supervision.
* Provide general administrative and support tasks as required.
* The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and prioritise workload efficiently, the skill to deliver a high standard of quality care and the ability to further your personal development.


Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job

* Have continued to develop professionally by obtained knowledge, keeping updated and learning new skills by attending relevant study days, practical training and teaching sessions and any relevant short courses.
* Highly developed knowledge of specialist perioperative care, tasks, policies and procedures within the perioperative area and relevant legislation governing them.
* Ability to act responsibly when carrying out clinical procedures and recording clinical information reporting any anomalies.
* Able to understand and use a variety of perioperative documentation accurately following induction and on the job training.
* For those with a on call requirement the Postholder will be expected to have a sound knowledge of a range of specialities within the perioperative area which will be gained through on the job experience of a minimum of six months.
* Acquired through experience and on the job training a broad range of technical skills in checking and troubleshooting perioperative equipment and machinery which is used routinely and non‑routinely.
* Must be able to use existing knowledge ,experience and initiative to be able to carry out some non‑routine tasks as they arise either on call, in emergency situations or when working in a new specialist area within the perioperative environment.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work unsupervised in a busy acute environment.
* Able to demonstrate own work activities to new or less experience staff.
