We are seeking on behalf of our client based in Milton Keynes a proactive and detail-oriented Bursar to join our their central finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting financial operations across our the Trust, schools, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic financial guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Head of Finance in managing budgets, accounts, and financial transactions.
Maintain financial relationships with external bodies including banking, leasing, and year-end accounts.
Provide timely and authoritative financial advice to Headteachers and senior leaders.
Monitor delegated budgets and income at designated schools.
Champion best practice in financial administration and support colleagues.
Manage nursery financial processes (if applicable).
Collaborate with the wider Trust Finance Team.
Day-to-Day Duties:
Process accounts payable invoices and manage supplier queries.
Oversee company credit card expenditure and BACs file preparation.
Handle cash collection, reconciliation, and banking.
Manage service contracts, insurance, and licences.
Reconcile balance sheet codes monthly.
Budget & Reporting:
Use Access (HCSS) accounting and budgeting software to monitor school budgets.
Provide regular financial reports to Headteachers and budget holders.
Support payroll monitoring and monthly management accounts.
Assist with year-end audit documentation and annual budget setting.
Compliance & Governance:
Ensure adherence to financial policies and regulations.
Liaise with internal and external auditors.
Support ESFA reporting requirements.
Person Specification:
Essential:
GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths.
AAT qualified or working towards qualification.
Experience in financial planning, budget monitoring, and final accounts.
Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Desirable:
Experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge of HCSS and school financial systems.
Understanding of devolved school budgets.
Additional Information:
This role involves travel between Trust schools - access to a car is advantageous.
