Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Acute services are seeking forward-thinking and dynamic individuals to join our established Consultant team.
Supported by doctors in training and our skilled nursing team, we provide excellent care across various Acute areas, including the Acute Medical Unit, Acute Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and Virtual Wards. We are recruiting highly motivated Consultants to expand our Acute Medical Team and deliver high-quality 7-day medical consultant coverage, including out-of-hours work.
The successful candidate will contribute to the continuous improvement of medical services within our Trust and will be committed to maintaining high standards of care.
Main duties of the job
The Acute medical team provides a seven-day service across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley Hospital. The post holder will:
1. Provide direct input into the care of patients referred to Acute Medicine from all sources, including GPs and Emergency Departments.
2. Ensure a focus on maximal ambulatory management to reduce patients' time in acute beds.
3. Contribute to multidisciplinary teams and lead the coordination of patient care.
4. Teach, train, and supervise medical students and postgraduate doctors in training.
5. Maintain ongoing commitment to patient care and ensure appropriate arrangements for leave and off-duty periods.
6. Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients through direct care and continuing professional development.
7. Develop close links with GPs, primary care colleagues, and community services in the region.
The post involves working on the acute medical units (AMUs) across both sites, SDEC, and AAU at Royal Preston Hospital.
