Overview
Band 8b Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist - SWM. Birmingham Community Nutrition are seeking a motivated Clinical Psychologist to join our Specialist Weight Management Team.
Our well-established service provides comprehensive support where psychological input is key. We help patients navigate their weight loss journey with empathy, expertise, and evidence-based care.
Responsibilities
* Manage a clinical caseload and deliver community clinics across Birmingham.
* Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including specialist dietitians.
* Develop innovative psychological interventions, supporting individual and group pathways, and contributing to the group education pathway.
* Lead on research, audits, and service evaluations to inform best practice and continuous improvement.
* Drive service development by influencing policy and clinical approaches.
* Take on leadership responsibilities, including supervision and staff training.
* Participate in links with a wider network of Psychologists in physical health and rehabilitation.
Qualifications and Experience
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
* Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with a wide range of client groups across the life course and care settings.
* Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care within an inter-disciplinary team.
* Experience teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
* Experience working with adults with weight management and complex psychological problems.
* Experience working within a multicultural framework.
Skills and Knowledge
* Expert use of complex psychological assessment, intervention and management methods requiring sustained concentration.
* Strong communication skills to convey highly technical information to clients, families, carers and colleagues.
* Experience providing professional consultation.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate analysis.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
* Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
* Ability to identify and provide support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
* Ability to use clinical governance mechanisms to maintain practice under emotionally demanding conditions.
* Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentations.
Other Job Requirements
* Ability to be independently mobile to travel across the Trust area if required.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act requirements.
* Certificate of Sponsorship: Skilled worker sponsorship applicants welcome and will be considered.
* UK professional registration is required.
