Overview
We are seeking a Group Health & Safety Manager who will be r esponsible for ensuring the Ansell Group adheres to all legal, regulatory, and internal safety standards to protect employees and visitors. Providing strategic leadership for Health & Safety across all Ansell Group sites, embedding a consistent and scalable SHEF framework that supports operational excellence and business growth.
The primary goal of the role is to ensure than Ansell Group maintain an environment compliant with Safety, Health, Environment, and Fire (SHEF) regulations. This involves proactive risk management and fostering a positive safety culture where compliance is integrated into daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
* Policy Development: Designing, implementing, and reviewing robust health and safety management systems, including fire risk assessments and safe systems of work.
* Auditing & Inspection: Conducting regular site audits and inspections to assess compliance with UK legislation (such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974) and corporate standards.
* Risk Assessment: Identifying workplace hazards and developing control measures, including recommending appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* Investigating accidents and near-misses, recording findings via RIDDOR or internal logs, and developing remedial action plans.
* Leading root cause investigations for serious incidents and trends, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented and reviewed for effectiveness.
* Monitoring incident trends, near misses, and unsafe acts to proactively reduce risk and prevent recurrence.
Training & Education
* Developing and delivering mandatory safety training for staff, contractors, and managers to ensure everyone understands their compliance roles.
* Reporting: Providing regular performance reports, analysing compliance KPIs, and advising senior leadership on emerging risks and legislative changes. Presenting data-driven insights, trends, and improvement plans to senior leadership
* Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies like the HSE, Environment Agency, and emergency services.
Strategic Leadership
* Act as the Group subject-matter expert for Health, Safety, Environment, and Fire (SHEF), setting direction and standards across multiple sites.
* Influence senior leaders and managers to proactively manage risk and integrate safety into operational and commercial decision-making.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce incidents, improve safety performance, and strengthen safety culture.
* Support business change projects (new sites, refurbishments, equipment, processes) by ensuring early H&S involvement.
* Contractor Safety: Ensuring robust contractor management systems are in place, including risk assessments, permits to work, induction processes, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Fire, Environmental and Business Continuity Management
* Overseeing fire safety management, emergency planning, and evacuation procedures across all sites.
* Supporting environmental compliance obligations where applicable (waste, spill response, sustainability reporting).
* Contributing to business continuity and crisis management planning from a safety and risk perspective.
Are you right for us?
Our Group Health & Safety Manager will have/be:
* NEBOSH National General Certificate or Diploma (Level 3 or higher) is essential.
* Professional memberships such as IOSH or IIRSM.
* Specialized certifications in fire safety, asbestos, or legionella manage
* Proven ability to operate at a senior or group level, influencing stakeholders without direct line management responsibility.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in accident investigations
* Excellent communication and IT skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
* Strong analytical and project management skills to handle complex problem-solving.
* Confidence in challenging unsafe practices and driving change at all organisational levels.
* Strong commercial awareness and understanding of operational pressures in manufacturing, warehousing, or logistics environments.
