Job overview

The North East Thames Regional Genetics Service (NETRGS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic Clinical Genetics Team as a 12 month fixed term, full time Band 7 Genetic Counsellor.

We are keen to help staff develop clinical areas of special interest, as well as build up research and educational activities, subject to the requirements of the service.

Applicants should have previous experience of managing an autonomous clinical caseload and should be registered with the AHCS, HCPC or recognised overseas body.

Our service is paperless using the EPIC patient management system which has allowed us to adopt a hybrid model of working.

Main duties of the job

You will provide high quality genetic counselling to patients and families within the NETRGS region. You will be expected to act as an autonomous practitioner undertaking counsellor led genetic clinics. You will also be expected to act as a role model and expert practitioner. In addition it will be expected that you provide education and training to genetic and non genetic health care professionals and other groups as well as promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of the Genetics Service through research and evidence based practice.

Working for our organisation

We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we’ll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.

Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women’s networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.

We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
